The Beginner's Guide
By Michelle
KNOW/LEARN YOUR HF RULES
Before you begin playing, make sure you look over the rules and understand them. When you start playing, before asking any questions, search the rules for your answer. Next, check the HF Information Center to see if any articles answer your question. As a last resort, before asking search the question forum, chances are good that someone else has asked a similar question! If not, feel free to ask away! Always refer to the rules if your unsure of anything, this includes member levels, establishment rules, showing rules, monetary issues, breeding rules, and general conduct.
DON'T HAVE AN ATTITUDE
In general, HF attracts a lot of nice, easy going people. We have a really mature population and most of our older members have little patience or time for drama. Leave the attitude for other sim games, no one appreciates it. If you are commenting on a touchy situation, choose your words carefully and make your meaning clear. It's very hard to convey tone over the computer. Read what you write from all angles to see if anyone could potentially take something the wrong way. We're a good bunch, we aren't overly sensitive, but we don't appreciate belittlement either. (This includes anyone who doesn't care to follow rules)
RESPECT OTHERS OPINIONS
No one has to agree with you, you don't have to agree with anyone else. But you must respect one another's opinions. We generally don't have any fights or huge issues concerning debates, etc. However, everyone is entitled to their opinion, if someone doesn't agree with you.. leave it at that or take it off the HF boards. For this reason, HF doesn't allow religious/political discussion, as it can get very personal very fast.
SPEAK UP..
Speak up if you feel offended or victimized by another member. Coming forward privately to an officer or Chelsea is the best way, and the officers will do their best to handle the situation fairly and resonably. Staying quiet will only bottle up your emotions, and leave you susceptible to a public outburst at the person you are having issues with.
KEEP YOUR RECORDS STRAIGHT
I suggest using excel, but whatever allows you to keep your horses, show records, etc. organized works. The other HF members appreciate someone who is somewhat organized and has all of their information together and accurate as possible. Also going along with this, make sure you register all horses as soon as you get them and/or transfer their ownership.
KEEP IT REAL
Realism is a big part of HF. RL pedigrees are a major major part of HF.. a horse that traces back to "unknown" is unlikely to sell as well as horses who trace back to RL horses. Showing realistically is another thing that helps give your animals quality. In general, realism is key.
DON'T STEAL
Pictures, Layouts, HTML, Direct Link, Etc. Etc. If its not yours, ask. If the answer is no, move on.
BE SAFE
This is the internet, and while the officers try to moniter any creepy people that join or get into the forum, the fact of the matter is we can't moniter private conversations. If you get a bad vibe about someone, tell an officer you trust. Don't give away your full name, address, phone number, etc. or your asking for trouble. In general, stalkers, predators, etc. will be deterred from a game like HF, given the trouble they would have to go through to gain the trust of just one person, but you never know! The only person you can really trust is yourself!
DON'T BE STUPID
Direct linking a picture is stupid.
creating a "palomino" arabian is stupid.
playing the game before reading the rules is... not smart.
buying to sell, importing to sell, or the like is really not smart.
bringing in drama will not make you liked.
and i could go on forever, just use your common sense.
