Horse Name: Goin Home Wild
Sire x Dam: Lil E Tee x Wildar
Breed: Thoroughbred
Gender: filly
Age: 2003
Short description of your horse:
GOIN HOME WILD, better known as "Frisky" around the stable yard, is a living tale of longshot-turned-champion, as cheesy as it sounds. Read more about that under her show record highlights.
"Frisky" has proven herself worthy of contending against HF's fastest colts, a feat that is certainly difficult; colts tend to be naturally faster and stronger than fillies. Frisky stands out in a racing field, with her coppery coat and long, lithe body (she stands a whopping 17.0 hh tall!), making her competitors look a little less graceful and a little more stout when she is near.
Frisky earned her nickname from her incredibly energentic and enthusiastic nature. She had a tough time remaining still during her recuperation time, and thus it took longer to heal. It's just not in Frisky's nature to remain still...or remain at the back of the pack! She's a very headstrong mare who demands to get what she wants at all times. She requires a very skilled jockey who can make her believe she IS always calling the shots while still utilizing the best strategy on the track. Frisky HATES being held back, though it's in her best interest to do so as she's better as a late closer (and has tremendous sprinting capabilities).
Frisky is sired by LIL E TEE, who was a GI winner with a record of 13-7-4-1 and earnings of over $1.4 million. He most notably won The Kentucky Derby. Her dam, WILDAR, is sired by WILD AGAIN, a GI winner with a record of 28-8-7-4 and earnings of over $2.2 million. His most notable win was perhaps the Breeder's Cup Classic. What a champion pedigree!
Show record highlights:
2 YO CAREER
-Frisky broke her maiden her second attempt (a difficult feat thanks to the randomizer!), having come in a respectable 4th in her first attempt.
-An injury shortly after prevented her from racing for the rest of her 2YO career, but also prompted her sale to us (for which we are eternally thankful). Frisky was given plenty of R&R to recover, and recover she did!
3 YO CAREER
-She had a strong start in her 3YO career, placing 3rd in the Las Virgenes Stakes (G1) in the February HFTRA Racemeet against fillies only.
-Frisky was in prime racing condition, but something was unsettling her during races. She had a string of lackluster performances when campaigning for the Triple Crown series, making us second-guess our conclusion that she had talent enough to race against HF's top colts: 12th in the Louisiana Derby (G2), 12th in the Woods Memorial (G1).
-Frisky qualified for the Triple Crown series only because more qualified horses backed out; it was by chance that she got to go.
-Frisky lived up to her longshot title in the Kentucky Derby (G1), coming in 15th, near the back of the pack.
-A stroke of bad luck quickly became the best luck we had seen with Frisky. When her regular jockey for the Triple Crown campaign, Jorge Morales, was injured just a few hours before the Preakness Stakes (G1), we scrambled to find a replacement jockey. The most qualified jockey available that day was Renee Livingston, a relative novice compared to the rest of the jockeys riding in the Triple Crown. Our hopes were quickly dimming, as we now had a longshot filly and a novice jockey contending against HF's very best. Much to our surprise and joy, Frisky and Renee came in 2nd! Turns out Frisky is ever the woman's horse, and having a male jockey makes her unresponsive and willful on the field. Were it not for Jorge's misfortune (he is fine, by the way, and riding some of our other racers to much success), we would never have discovered this subtle key to success with Frisky.
-We quickly booked Renee for the Belmont Stakes (G1), and the duo proved their chemistry with a big win.
-Frisky has since been given a break between races. The current plans are to let Frisky finish out her 3YO career before retiring her to brood.
SUMMARY
7 starts, 2-1-1 (2 wins, 1 place, 1 show)
Earnings: $870,000.00
Progeny highlights: None, as she's just a youngster herself. She will have her first foal in 2007 or 2008. It promises to be the most exciting birth in Momentum Ltd.'s history!
